Steering Column - Creaking Noise From Instrument Panel

CREAKING NOISE AT STEERING COLUMN (PROVIDE CLEARANCE)

Models Affected:
1993 GRAND PRIX MODELS

APPLICATION:
1993 Grand Prix models built prior to the following VIN breakpoints: Fairfax 234035.

CONDITION:

creaking noise from left side of instrument panel area.

CAUSE:

Steering column reinforcement plate may be contacting cowl lower surface.

CORRECTION:





Provide clearance at lower flange areas (see illustration) to cowl surface.

1. Remove door opening sill plate and pull carpeting back from cowl steering column area.

2. Lift sound deadening material exposing reinforcement plate on cowl panel.

3. Using a small pry bar or equivalent tool provide clearance between panels at areas as indicated in illustration.
