Differential & Output Shaft Preload Shim

This procedure must be performed with the gear cluster assemblies, shift fork assemblies and differential installed in the transaxle case.

1. Install output shaft support bearing race (59) onto output shaft bearing (58).

2. Install differential bearing race (77) onto differential bearing (76).

3. Remove shims (122 and 74) from clutch and differential case where output shaft bearing race seats.

4. Place measuring tip of dial indicator tool No. J-80001, or equivalent, on case mating surface and set to 0.050 inch.

5. Install measuring base tool No. J-39457, or equivalent, and dial indicator on transaxle case mating surface.

6. Measure top of output shaft bearing race (59).

7. Calculate difference between 0.050 inch and reading of bearing race.

8. Choose shim from shim kit to achieve bearing preload of 0.012-0.014 inch.

9. Repeat procedure for output shaft bearing preload.
