Synchronizers

DISASSEMBLE
Place 1-2, 3-4, fifth and reverse speed synchronizers in separate shop towels, then wrap assemblies and press against inner hub.


ASSEMBLE
1. First/second synchronizer sleeve extension must be facing opposite inner hub extension.






2. Fifth speed synchronizer small outside diameter groove, must be positioned over wider side of hub. Align ball and spring pockets.















3. Assemble springs into keys.

4. Install spring and key assemblies with bevel cut on keys toward sleeve.

5. On reverse speed synchronizer, hole in key is off center. Line up key hole with hole in gear hub for proper installation.

6. Position assembly as shown in view A, C, E and G.

7. Install balls in assembly as follows:

a. Push ball into sleeve using screwdriver.

b. Push sleeve down just enough to retain ball.


8. Cock sleeve just enough to allow installation of remaining balls one at a time.

8. Install blocker rings and ensure blocker ring tangs line up with keys.

9. On reverse synchronizer, center hub, keys and balls by pushing blocker ring (view H). Balls will click into position.

10. On all synchronizers except reverse, center hub, keys and balls by pushing on both blocker rings (views B, D and F). Balls will click into position.
