Neutral Safety Switch: Service and Repair
Park/Neutral - Backup Lamp Switch:
"T" - Latch Wiring Connector:
Removal
1. Remove shift linkage.
2. Disconnect electrical connector.
3. Remove mounting bolts.
4. Remove switch.
Installation - Using old switch
1. Place shift shaft in "Neutral."
2. Align flats of shift shaft with switch.
3. Install mounting bolts-to-case, loosely.
4. Insert gage pin in service adjustment hole and rotate switch until pin drops in to a depth of 9 mm (9/64").
5. Tighten bolts.
Important: After switch adjustment, verify that engine will only start in "Park" or "Neutral." If engine will start in any other position, readjust switch.
Installation - Using new switch
1. Place shift shaft in "Neutral."
2. Align flats of shift shaft to flats in switch.
3. Mounting bolts and tighten. If bolt holes do not align with mounting boss on transaxle, verify shift shaft is in "Neutral" position, do not rotate switch. Switch is pinned in "Neutral" position.
^ If switch has been rotated and pin broken, switch can be adjusted by using the "Installation - Using old switch" procedure.
Important: After switch installation verify that engine will only start in "Park" or "Neutral." If engine will start in any other position, readjust switch using "Replacement - Using old switch" procedure.
Adjustment
1. Place transaxle shift lever in "Neutral."
2. Loosen switch attaching screws.
3. Rotate switch on shaft assembly to align service adjustment hole with carrier tang hole.
^ Insert 2.34 mm (3/32") max. diameter gage pin to a depth of 15 mm (5/8").
4. Tighten attaching screws to specification.
5. Remove gage pin.
