Engine Removal and Installation
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.2. Remove air intake duct, then raise and support vehicle and remove wheels.
3. Drain coolant and engine oil, then remove exhaust crossover pipe assembly.
4. On models with automatic transmission, remove converter cover and converter bolts.
5. On all models, remove front fascia lower deflectors, stabilizer bar bolts and the serpentine drive belt.
6. Remove secondary air injection pump assembly, then disconnect A/C hose assembly from condenser and compressor.
7. On models with automatic transmission, disconnect transmission cooler lines from radiator.
8. On all models, disconnect lower radiator hose from radiator and lower heater hose from water pump, then the electrical ground straps from right side of engine block and electrical connections from starter motor.
9. Disconnect electrical connectors from knock sensor, oxygen sensor, coolant temperature sensor, wheel speed sensor, engine oil level switch and fuel pump switch/engine oil pressure gauge sensor assemblies.
10. Disconnect left front brake line from caliper brake hose, then the wiring harness from transmission.
11. Disconnect shift linkage from transmission, then the propeller shaft from transmission. Scribe alignment marks on propeller shaft before disconnecting.
12. Disconnect torque arm from transmission, then the intermediate steering shaft from rack and pinion assembly.
13. Disconnect electrical ground straps from left side of engine block and frame rail, then lower vehicle.
14. Disconnect fuel lines from fuel rail assembly.
15. Disconnect cruise and accelerator control cables from throttle body, then the upper and lower radiator hoses and upper heater hose from water pump.
16. Disconnect coolant air bleed pipe hose from radiator assembly.
17. Disconnect brake booster vacuum hose, then the alternator.
18. Disconnect engine wiring harness connectors and reposition harness.
19. Disconnect A/C receiver and dehydrator hose from condenser, A/C hose from expansion tube, then the power steering reservoir and reposition.
20. Remove brake master cylinder and reposition, then the upper bolts and nuts from strut assemblies.
21. Disconnect right front brake line from modulator valve assembly and clips, then raise and support vehicle.
22. Place a lift table under engine and engine frame assembly, then remove engine frame and transmission support bolts.
23. Raise vehicle from engine, transmission and engine frame assemblies, then secure strut assemblies to engine frame.
24. Disconnect transmission TV cable from throttle body, then remove transmission assembly.
25. On models with manual transmission, remove clutch housing and clutch assembly.
26. On all models, disconnect hose assemblies from A/C compressor, then remove compressor.
27. Disconnect power steering lines from power steering pump.
28. Remove engine mount through bolts, then the engine assembly from engine frame.
29. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Tighten fasteners to specifications.
b. Bleed brake and power steering systems.
c. Align wheels.
