FILE IN SECTION: 10 - BodyBULLETIN NO.: 53-10-19
DATE: August, 1995
SUBJECT:
Convertible Top Slaps on # 2 or # 3 Roof Bow (Add Velcro(R) Loop Strips to Bows)
MODELS:
1994-95 Chevrolet Camaro
1994-95 Pontiac Firebird
CONDITION
Some customers may experience a slapping noise when driving with the top up, coming from the convertible top.
CAUSE
This may be caused by the air flow over the top causing the top material to vibrate against the roof bows, producing the slapping sound.
CORRECTION
Velcro(R) self adhesive loop tape may be added to the top of the # 2 and # 3 roof bows to improve this condition.
Procedure
Refer to Service Manual, Section 10-9 for general information.
1. Lower the top to the 12 o'clock position.
2. The # 2 and # 3 roof bow can be accessed from the side, by putting your hand between the top material and the headliner, forward of the bow.
3. Obtain locally or from GMSPO, two (2) 1"(25.4 mm) wide x 33"(762.0 mm) long, Velcro(R) or equivalent self adhesive loop strips. Bulk material available from GM Service Parts Organization is P/N 12520273.
4. Measure the distance between the inboard edges of the stay pads at the # 2 and # 3 bows. Cut the Velcro(R) strips approximately 0.250" (6.2 mm) shorter.
5. Wipe bows to remove dust.
6. Install the strips on the bows as shown in Figure 1. Insure the fuzzy loop half is used and not the hard hook half. The strips will be located between the tops side stay pads.
7. Raise and latch top.
