Taper Wear and/or Uneven Wear on Rear Disc Brake Pads (Replace Caliper Mounting Brackets)
Models:
1993-96 Chevrolet Camaro
1993-96 Pontiac Firebird
Condition
Some of the above vehicles may exhibit taper wear and/or uneven wear on the rear disc brake pads. (Taper wear is defined as uneven wear of the pad from end to end or inboard versus outboard uneven wear.) Maximum taper allowed is 0.15 mm (0.006 inch).
Cause
Wear of the caliper guide pins and the bores on the caliper anchor brackets may result in the caliper not sliding freely.
Correction
Replace the caliper anchor bracket, the guide pins and the brake pads. Refer to Section 5B2 of the Service Manual.
