NOTE: On Air Bag Equipped Models, Refer To Air Bag Disarming & Arming Procedures. Refer to Air Bags and Seat Belt/Air Bags(SRS)/Service and Repair.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove wiring harness from ignition switch assembly.
3. Remove steering column from vehicle.
4. Remove steering wheel as described under Steering Wheel, Replace, then remove upper steering column covers. Refer to Steering and Suspension.
5. Remove park lock assembly as follows:
a. Turn key to run position.
b. Push in tab on end of cable assembly and remove from bottom of steering column housing assembly, Fig.8
c. Pry locking tab on opposite end of cable and remove from linear shift adapter.
d. Remove wire cable from park lock latch.
6. Move shift lever to neutral position.
7. Remove three flat head screws, then linear shift assembly from column.
8. Remove transaxle cable from ball stud on linear shift base adapter.
9. Drill a 9/32 inch (10 mm) hole on back of steering column housing assembly.
10. Insert tool as shown in Fig.9 into hole to engage lock retainer spring, then turn tool to break retainer spring.
11. Hold steering column vertical and tap on housing assembly to dislodge lock retainer.
12. Pull lock cylinder from housing assembly.
13. Clean all metal shavings from drilled hole and inside of housing.
14. Reverse procedure to install.
