Convertible Top: Description and Operation
With the ignition switch in the "RUN" position, voltage is applied to the
Convertible Top Switch through the Power Accessory Fuse. Moving the Convertible Top Switch to the "UP" or "DOWN" position energizes the
Convertible Top Relay to supply both power and ground to the motors. Voltage to operate the motors comes from the Power Window Circuit Breaker, via the convertible Top Relay. A left and right motor is used to open and close the
Convertible Top. These motors are electrically "ganged" together which opens and closes the top. Based on the position of the Convertible Top Switch, the Convertible Top Relay supplies power and ground to either side of the motors, depending on the desired travel direction of the Convertible Top. A Bypass Switch is installed in the circuit to provide a means to manually operate the Convertible Top in the event of malfunction. By opening the Bypass Switch, the motors are no longer "ganged" together, allowing for easier operation of the Convertible Top manually.
