Engine: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then drain coolant.
2. On models equipped with air conditioning, discharge and recover refrigerant, then disconnect compressor condenser hose assembly at compressor.
3. On all models, remove left sound insulator and disconnect clutch push rod from pedal assembly.
4. Disconnect heater hose at thermostat housing, then the upper radiator hose.
5. Remove air cleaner and coolant fan assembly.
6. Disconnect all vacuum hoses and electrical connectors.
7. Disconnect throttle cable and bracket.
8. Remove power steering rear bracket and power brake vacuum tube as an assembly.
9. Disconnect and position aside power steering pump.
10. Relive fuel pressure as outlined under "Precautions, then disconnect fuel lines.
11. On models with automatic transaxle, disconnect shift cables.
12. On models with manual transaxle, disconnect clutch actuator line.
13. Remove exhaust manifold and heat shields.
14. Disconnect lower radiator hose, then install engine support tool No. J-28467-A, or equivalent, then remove engine mount assembly.
15. Raise and support vehicle, then remove both front tire and wheel assemblies.
16. Remove righthand side splash shield and radiator air deflector.
17. Remove engine and transaxle mount, then separate ball joints from steering knuckles.
18. Remove suspension supports, cross-member and stabilizer shaft as an assembly.
19. Disconnect air conditioning lines from oil pan.
20. Remove air flywheel housing cover.
21. Position suitable support beneath engine and carefully lower vehicle.
22. Mark threads on support fixture hooks so setting can be duplicated when installing engine.
23. Remove engine support J hooks, then slowly raise vehicle away from engine and transaxle assembly.
24. Reverse procedure to install.
