Electrical/Garage Shift Test
This test should be performed before any hoist or road tests to make sure electronic control inputs are connected and operating. If the inputs are not checked before operating the transaxle, a simple electrical condition could be misdiagnosed as a major transaxle condition.A scan tool must be used on this transaxle for accurate diagnosis.
1. Move gear selector to Park position and set parking brake.
2. Connect scan tool to DCL terminal, located under lefthand side of instrument panel.
3. Start engine and connect power to scan tool.
4. Verify that the following signals are present:
a. ENGINE SPEED
b. TRANS INPUT SPEED
c. TRANS OUTPUT SPEED
d. VEHICLE SPEED
e. A/B/C RING
f. PRNDL SELECT
g. DESIRED PCS
h. ACTUAL PCS
i. PCS DUTY CYCLE
j. BRAKE SWITCH
k. ENG COOLANT TEMP
l. TRANS FLUID TEMP
m. THROTTLE ANGLE
n. SYSTEM VOLTS
5. Monitor brake switch signal while tapping the brake pedal with our foot. Brake switch should be on when pedal is depressed and come off when pedal is released.
6. Monitor PRNDL select signal while moving gear selector through all ranges. PRNDL select signal should match gear range indicated on the instrument panel or console. Gear selections should be immediate and not harsh.
7. Move gear selector to neutral and monitor throttle angle signal while increasing and decreasing engine RPM. Throttle angle should increase with engine RPM.
