DTC 53 Battery Voltage Error:

PCM Battery Voltage Schematic:

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) continuously monitors battery voltage to protect the vehicle's electrical system from damage due to high or low battery voltage.

DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) 53 WILL SET WHEN
^ Battery voltage is greater than 16 volts.

OR

^ Battery voltage is less than 10 volts for 240 seconds.

NOTICE:
Additional DTCs may set, resulting from the disabling of PCM outputs.

ACTION TAKEN (PCM WILL DEFAULT TO)
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) will illuminate, and PCM outputs will be disabled.

DTC CHART TEST DESCRIPTION
Number(s) below refer to circled number(s) on the diagnostic chart.

1. Normal battery voltage is between 10 and 17.0 volts.
2. Checks to see if generator is faulty under load condition. If the voltage is above 17.1 volts, refer to Starting and Charging.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
^ Charging the battery and then starting the engine, may set DTC 53.
^ If DTC sets when an accessory is operated, check for poor connections or excessive current draw.
^ Check for poor connections at starter solenoid or fusible link junction box.
