Models:
1995 Chevrolet Cavalier
1995 Pontiac Sunfire

This bulletin is being revised to update part number information. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 53-15-10 (Section 10 - Body).

Condition

Some owners may comment that the fuel filler door latch retainer snap-in legs are loose and not secured to quarter panel.

Cause

Quarter panel with over-long flange at fuel filler opening creates double metal thickness which interferes with latch retention features.

Correction

To correct the above condition, check to see if the fuel filler latch snap-in legs (see Item 1, Figure 1) are engaged by trying to pull the latch straight out. If latch pulls out, do the following:

1. Install retaining clip, P/N 22651673, (see Item 2, Figure 1) between fuel door latch retaining wing tab and metal reinforcement ring.

2. Make sure latches are fully seated.

3. Retaining clip (see Item 2, Figure 1), must be fully seated and installed with thumb tab pointing forward in car position.
