PCM Controlled Warning Lamps

PURPOSE
Vehicles equipped with a electronic instrument panel cluster utilize a low oil level telltale that indicates oil level, a low oil pressure telltale that indicates engine oil pressure, and a low coolant level symbol telltale that indicates coolant level. The purpose of these lamps are to warn the operator of potential engine damaging conditions. If any of the warning lamps are illuminated, then a condition is present that may cause engine problems.

OPERATION
The oil level, oil pressure and coolant level switches are connected to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If low oil level, low oil pressure or low coolant level is detected, the PCM will send information through serial data to the instrument cluster The instrument cluster receives the information through serial data from the PCM and the "warning" lamps are turned "ON" by the instrument cluster.
