This bulletin is being revised to correct the page number refence for the N-car Service Manual. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 53-32-12 (Section 3 - Steering/Suspension).
This bulletin revises the Disabling and Enabling procedures in Section 3F-4 of the J-Car Service Manual and N-Car Service Manual.
Disabling the SIR System
Caution: When performing service on or around SIR components or SIR wiring, follow the procedures listed below to temporarily disable the SIR system. Failure to follow procedures could result in possible air bag deployment, personal injury or otherwise unneeded SIR system repairs.
Remove
^ Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.
^ Turn the ignition switch to "LOCK" and remove the key.
1. "AIR BAG" fuse from I/P fuse block.
2. Sound insulator panel - driver's side. Refer to Section 8C2 of the Service Manual.
3. SIR Connector Positive Assurance (CPA), driver and passenger yellow 2-way connectors at the base of the steering column.
Enabling the SIR System
Install or Connect
^ Turn ignition switch to "LOCK" and remove key.
1. SIR driver and passenger yellow 2-way connectors at the base of the steering column, and Connector Positive Assurance (CPA).
2. Sound insulator panel - driver's side. Refer to Section 8C2 of the Service Manual.
3. "AIR BAG" fuse to I/P fuse block.
