Clunk Noise From Front of Vehicle When Riding Over Large Bumps/Potholes (Tighten Lower Control Arm to New Spec)
Models:
1995 Chevrolet Cavalier
1995 Pontiac Sunfire
with 2.2L Engine (VIN 4 - RPO LN2)
CONDITION
Some owners may comment on a clunk noise coming from the front of the vehicle while riding over large bumps or potholes.
CAUSE
The front lower control arm to suspension support bolt may allow the bushing to move enough to produce a clunk noise.
CORRECTION
Inspect lower control arm for proper tightening specification. The specification has been increased from 120 Nm (89 lb.ft.) to 120 Nm plus 180° rotation. Check the static tightening specification to ensure 160 Nm (118 lb.ft.) - 230 Nm (170 lb.ft.).
