Removal and Replacement
REPLACE1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support vehicle, then mark position of propeller shaft to pinion yoke.
3. Remove propeller shaft as follows:
a. Using a center punch or suitable equivalent, mark propeller shaft and pinion gear yoke for installation reference.
b. If removing a two-piece shaft, remove bolts/screws from center support bearing, then center support bearing and washers from torque arm.
c. Remove four bolts and two retainers.
d. Slide propeller shaft slip yoke out of the transmission.
4. Support transmission, then remove washer and nut from support and transmission.
5. Remove bolt/screws from support and rail, then remove support from transmission and rail.
6. Remove rear axle torque arm and catalytic converter hanger assembly.
7. Remove bolt/screws from torque converter cover, then cover from transmission.
8. Remove bolt/screws from converter, then flywheel from converter.
9. Move catalytic converter heat shield if necessary.
10. Remove range selector lever cable and transmission cooler pipes from pipe clips.
11. Disconnect electrical connectors at transmission, then remove transmission fluid level indicator bolts/screws and indicator.
12. Separate transmission from engine.
13. Disconnect all electrical connectors.
14. Disconnect transmission oil cooler lines, then lower transmission from vehicle.
15. Reverse procedure to install.
