Drum Brake System: Adjustments

BRAKE ADJUSTMENT

This vehicle uses fully self-adjusting single servo rear drum brakes. There is no manual adjuster for the drum brake assembly. Adjustment of shoe-to-drum clearance is accomplished through the use of a ratcheting brake strut which automatically compensates for the gradual loss of brake lining material.

However, following removal of the rear brake drum or replacement of the brake shoes, the rear brakes will need to be adjusted. To adjust the drum brakes, simply depress the brake pedal three to five times with approximately 30 kg (66 lbs.) of pressure after all parts have been reinstalled. The brake shoe-to-drum clearance should now be properly adjusted. Check the brake drum for dragging and, upon lowering the vehicle, test the rear brake system for proper performance.
