Disassembly/Assembly
Fig. 17 Rotor Radial Clearance Inspection:
Fig. 18 Rotor Side Clearance Inspection:
1. Drain oil, then remove dipstick tube from oil pump.
2. Remove rotor plate.
3. Remove outer and inner rotors.
4. Inspect oil seal lip for damage and replace as necessary.
5. Inspect outer and inner rotors, rotor plate, and oil pump case for excessive wear or damage.
6. Using feeler gauge, check radial clearance between outer rotor and crescent, Fig. 17. If clearance exceeds .0122 inch, replace outer rotor.
7. Using straightedge and feeler gauge, measure side clearance which should not exceed .0059 inch, Fig. 18.
8. Wash, clean and dry all oil pump parts.
9. Apply light coat of engine oil to inner and outer rotors, oil seal lip portion, and inside surfaces of oil pump case and plate.
10. Install outer and inner rotors in pump case.
11. Install rotor plate and tighten screws securely. Check that gears turn smoothly by hand.
12. Install O-ring in pump case, then dipstick tube.
