Remove steering wheel as outlined in Steering Column. Refer to Steering and Suspension/Steering.
Refer to Steering Column/Locations/Components/Standard Column for exploded view of steering column.
1. Remove six screws retaining upper and lower steering column covers, then remove column covers.
2. Remove two electrical connectors from fuse box, one from the SIR harness, and one from the main wiring harness, Fig. 77.
3. Remove SIR coil and turn signal/dimmer switch attaching screws, then switch assembly.
4. Reverse procedure to install noting the following:
a. Ensure SIR coil is centered. If not position wheels of vehicle in the straightforward position.
b. Check position of SIR coil, Fig. 78.
c. If Neutral mark is at the alignment mark the coil is centered and no adjustment is necessary.
d. If R1 mark is close to the alignment mark coil is one rotation off to the right from its center state and needs to be adjusted on turn counterclockwise. The R2 mark indicates that the coil is two rotations off.
e. If L1 mark is close to the alignment mark coil is one rotation off to the left from its center state and needs to be adjusted on turn clockwise. The L2 mark indicates that the coil is two rotations off.
f. To adjust remove SIR coil, hold coil lead at its base and turn in the direction specified in steps d and e. Then replace SIR coil.
