RE-Establishing Distributor Position
IF THE DISTRIBUTOR POSITION WAS LOSTThis procedure should be used if the distributor position was lost. If the engine was accidentally cranked after the distributor was removed, the procedure listed below can be used to properly position the distributor.
TOOL REQUIRED
J 22794 Spark Plug Port Adapter
PROCEDURE
1. Crank the engine until the number one cylinder is at Top Dead Center (TDC) on its compression stroke. This can be accomplished by the following:
A. Remove the FI Fuse from the fuse and relay box.
B. Remove the number one spark plug.
C. Install a J 22794 spark plug port adapter and a compression gage into the spark plug cavity.
D. Crank the engine and observe the compression gage. The TDC of the cylinder's compression stroke occurs when the compression reading is highest.
2. Align the timing mark on the crankshaft pulley to the zero (0) position on the timing indicator.
3. Position the rotor to the number one cylinder position.
4. Install the distributor.
5. Remove the J 22794 spark plug port adapter and the compression gage.
6. Install the number one spark plug. Tighten spark plug to 28 Nm (21 lb ft).
7. Install the FI Fuse into the fuse and relay box.
8. Set ignition timing. Refer Ignition System / Adjustments. Adjustments
