CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
When the ignition switch is first turned to "ON," "Ignition 1" voltage is applied from the 15 amp "IG" fuse (near base of steering column in junction block) to the "AIR BAG" warning lamp which is connected to "SIR Indicator," terminal "7." The "AIR BAG-IG" fuse applies system voltage to the "Ignition 1" input, terminal "8." The SDM responds by flashing the "AIR BAG" warning lamp seven times. If "Ignition 1" is outside of the normal operating voltage range, the "AIR BAG" warning lamp will come "ON" steady with no DTCs set.
CHART TEST DESCRIPTION
Numbers below refer to circled numbers on the diagnostic chart.
1. This test checks for an open in the "Ignition 1" circuitry to the SDM.
2. This test checks for proper voltage to the SDM.
3. If the CPA is not installed or installed incorrectly the warning lamp will be "ON" with the ignition switch at "ON."
4. This test determines whether the malfunction is a short to ground in CKT Or.
5. Improper connection of the SDM and/or CPA will cause the shorting bar in the SDM connector (from terminal "6" to terminal "7") to activate causing the warning lamp "ON" condition.
6. An open "AIR BAG-IG" fuse would cause the "AIR BAG" warning lamp to come "ON" steady.
7. This test checks for an open in the "Ignition 1" circuit.
8. This test checks whether a short to ground caused the "AIR BAG-IG" fuse to open.
9. This test determines whether a short to ground is due to a short in the wiring.
