Differential Assembly
Important- Before installing the differential assembly to the transaxle, select the proper differential side bearing shim using the following procedure.
Measure
^ Tools Required:
- J 26900-5 Vernier Caliper
- J 34673 Flat Gage Bar
1. With the gasket removed, measure the distance between the transaxle case housing mating surface and the differential side bearing bore (A) using a J 26900-5 with a J 34673.
2. Distance from transaxle case mating surface to the bottom of the differential side bearing bore (B) using the J 26900-5 with the J 34673.
3. Differential height (C) using the J 26900-5 with the J 34673.
4. Determine the transaxle case-to-bearing clearance (D) using the following calculation:
D = [A+B+gasket thickness] - [C+error]
Gasket Thickness = 0.4 mm (0.016-inch)
Error = 0.2 mm (0.008-inch)
5. Using the measurement obtained above and "Differential Side Bearing Shim Selection Table", select the proper differential side bearing shim.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Differential side bearing shim to transaxle case.
2. Differential assembly making sure the differential ring gear meshes with the countershaft gear. The speedometer drive gear should face outward. Use caution not to damage gear tooth surfaces.
Inspect
- Differential for smooth operation by grasping speedometer drive gear and rotating by hand.
