Output Shaft

Inspect
- Output shaft seal ring for cuts or damage and replace as necessary.

INSTALL OR CONNECT

^ Tool Required:
- J 35539 Output Shaft Remover and Installer

1. Move manual shift lever to any position other than park.





2. Output shaft into transaxle case. Using a J 35539, tap the output shaft into the transaxle case. DO NOT hammer excessively or damage to the transaxle case could result.
3. Move the manual shift lever into the park position to lock the output shaft in place.
4. Reduction driven gear making sure it meshes with reduction drive gear.
5. Reduction driven gear nut.





Tighten
- Reduction driven gear nut to 150 N.m (108 lb. ft.).





6. Stake reduction driven gear nut in two places using a hammer and chisel.

Inspect
- Output shaft and countershaft for smooth operation by rotating the reduction drive gear and driven gear by hand.

7. New rear case cover gasket.
8. Rear case cover mailing sure the output shaft bearing, on the reduction. drive gear enters the rear case cover bore smoothly.
9. Five of the ten cover bolts not covered by the J 35525-A.
10. Two rear case cover nuts.

Tighten
- Rear case cover nuts to 15 N.m (11 lb. ft.).





- Rear case cover bolts to 23 N.m (17 lb. ft.).








11. Position the four tabs of a J 35539 in the four notches inside the transaxle case, and tap lightly with a hammer to seat the output shaft against the rear case cover. DO NOT tap the output shaft itself with a hammer or damage to the output shaft may result.

Inspect
- Reduction drive gear and driven gear for any abnormal gear noise by rotating the output shaft.
