Fluid Pump Assembly
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT1. Two fluid pump cover seal rings on rear of pump cover hub.
2. Fluid pump cover seal ring from fluid pump body.
3. Eleven fluid pump cover bolts.
4. Fluid pump cover from fluid pump body.
5. Input shaft fluid seal (torque converter hub seal).
Inspect
- Input shaft fluid seal (torque converter hub seal) for wear or damage; replace as necessary.
- Fluid pump cover seal rings for cuts, wear or other damage.
- Fluid pump gear crescent for unusual wear or damage.
Measure
^ Tool Required:
- J 34673 Flat Gage Bar
1. Pump body driven gear clearance. Move the pump driven gear to one side of the pump body. Then, use a feeler gage to measure the clearance between the pump body and the driven gear. Standard clearance is 0.07 to 0.15 mm (0.0028 to 0.0059-inch). If clearance exceeds 0.30 mm (0.011-inch), replace the pump driven gear.
2. Pump drive/driven gear tip clearance by placing a feeler gage between the gear teeth and gear crescent. Standard tip clearance is 0.11 to 0.14 mm (0.0044 to 0.0055-inch). If clearance exceeds 0.30 mm (0.011 inch), replace the pump drive and driven gears.
3. Pump drive gear/driven gear side clearance. Place a J 34673 across the pump body and using a feeler gage, measure the clearance between the pump body and the drive/driven gears. Standard side clearance should measure 0.02 to 0.05 mm (0.0008 to 0.0019 inch). If clearance exceeds 0.1 mm (0.0039-inch), replace the pump drive/driven gears.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
^ Tools Required:
- J 9617 Pump Seal Installer
- J 36850 Transjel Transmission Assembly Lubricant
1. Pump drive/driven gears into pump body. Lubricate with J 36850.
Inspect
- Pump drive/driven gears for smooth operation.
2. Pump cover to pump body with eleven pump body bolts.
Tighten
- Pump cover bolts to 12 N.m (106 lb. in.).
3. Two pump cover seal rings onto pump cover hub. Lubricate with J 36850.
4. New pump cover seal to pump body. Lubricate with J 36850.
5. Input shaft fluid seal (torque converter hub seal) using a J 9617.
6. Input shaft bearing race (outer, flat) on the read of the fluid pump cover hub. Lubricate bearing race with J 36850 so that beating race will adhere to rear of fluid pump cover hub.
7. Direct clutch outer washer on the fluid pump cover. Lubricate with J 36850 and fit washer into notch of fluid pump cover.
8. Input shaft inner race (flange up) and input shaft bearing. Lubricate with J 36850.
9. Fluid pump to transaxle case. Lubricate input shaft, pump cover seal rings and pump cover seal with J 36850 and gently push down until contact with case is made. Use caution not to drop input shaft beating outer race on rear of fluid pump cover hub.
10. Six fluid pump body bolts.
Tighten
- Fluid pump body bolts to 27 N.m (20 lb. ft.).
Measure
^ Tool Required:
- J 8001 Dial Indicator Set
Input shaft end play by positioning the J 8001 on the end of the input shaft. Then, grasp the input shaft and move it up and down. Input shaft end play should measure 0.3 to 0.9 mm (0.012 to 0.035-inch). If input shaft end play exceeds specification, remove the fluid pump and replace the outer input shaft bearing race on the fluid pump side.
