Reduction Driven Gear, Countershaft and Output Shaft

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

^ Tool Required:
- J 35539 Output Shaft Remover/Installer

1. Move manual shift lever to park position so that the output shaft is locked and cannot turn.





2. Staking from reduction driven gear nut.
3. Loosen the reduction driven gear nut.

NOTICE: DO NOT use excessive force to remove the reduction driven gear nut. DO NOT use a hammer on the wrench to loosen the nut. Use a socket wrench and gentle pressure. Any excessive force may damage the parking lock pawl or the output shaft.





4. Reduction driven gear.





5. Countershaft from transaxle case by gently tapping with a rubber mallet.





NOTICE: DO NOT tap on the output shaft itself. Tapping on the output shaft may cause damage to the shaft or the bearing. Position the four tabs of a J 35539 in the four notches of the transaxle case and tap the outer race of the internal output shaft bearing from the inside of the transaxle case until it can be removed.
