Preliminary Testing
PERFORM BEFORE BEGINNING SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS:1. Check the battery hydrometer eye that is built into the vehicle's battery before troubleshooting the charging system.
- Green eye - Battery is charged sufficiently for load testing.
- Dark eye - Battery is discharged. Recharge Battery before load testing.
- Clear or yellow eye - Battery fluid is low. Replace Battery.
2. Check IGN Fuse and GEN Fuse.
3. Check the generator belt.
4. Check the Starter Solenoid terminal "B" and Battery connections are clean and tight.
- Check for a broken (or partially broken) wire inside of the insulation which could cause system failure but prove "GOOD" in a continuity/voltage check (refer to "General Troubleshooting Procedures,"). Diagnostic Aids
- Check for proper installation of aftermarket electronic equipment which may effect the integrity of other systems (refer to "General Troubleshooting Procedures,").
