When equipped with one of the listed engines,

With the introduction of OBDII (On Board Diagnostics) there is a potential to gain a wealth of information from vehicles coming in for repair with the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illuminated. This bulletin addresses a process that will provide OBDII code information through the warranty claims system.

The following action should be taken by the servicing GM dealer.

1. The OBDII P-Codes, Technician Observations and Customer Comments are all to be recorded on the repair order in accordance with the article 1.6.2G of the GM Service Policies and Procedure Manual.

2. The above information is to be entered in the comment section of the warranty claim for submission in accordance with Section 4.2.g in the GM Claims Processing Manual.

This information will be analyzed by GM Powertrain Engineering. The process will provide engineers with accurate detailed information on a more timely basis. This can result in the early identification and resolution to many potential product concerns.

With "P-code, Technician Observations, and Customer Comment" information on all vehicles requiring OBDII code repair, engineering can begin to better understand what is causing the Malfunction Indicator Lamp to illuminate.

Engineering is committed to working with the GM Dealerships and with their help can further improve the product quality. Feedback will also be provided to the Dealers based on the information received.
