Vehicle Speed Surge With Cruise Control Engaged (Replace Cruise Control Module)

Models:
1996-97 Chevrolet Cavalier
1996-97 Pontiac Sunfire with 2.2L Engine (VIN 4 - RPO LN2) and 3T4O Transaxle

Condition

Some owners may comment on an annoying vehicle speed surge with the cruise control engaged. Typical speed ranges for this surge to occur are 35-42 mph and 65-72 mph.

Cause

Condition may be due to variation in transaxle speed output signal.

Correction

This condition may be corrected by replacing the cruise control module. Refer to Section 9B in the Service Manual for remove and install procedures.
