Removal and Installation

TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY

Flywheel Housing Cover:




Transaxle To Engine Mounting:






TOOL REQUIRED:
J 28467-A Engine Support Fixture,

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Negative battery cable.

2. Install J 28467-A and raise engine enough to take pressure off of the transaxle mounts.
3. Left sound insulator.
4. Clutch master cylinder pushrod from the clutch pedal.
5. Air cleaner and duct assembly from throttle body.
6. Wire harness at the mount bracket.
7. Upper transaxle mount to transaxle bolts.
8. Clutch master cylinder from clutch actuator cylinder.
9. Wire harness at the mount bracket.
10. Ground cables at transaxle mounting studs.
11. Backup light switch connector.
12. Transaxle vent tube.
13. Rear transaxle to engine bolts.
14. Lower engine with the engine support fixture at least 30 revolutions to ease removal and installation of transaxle.
15. Raise the vehicle and support.
16. Drain the transaxle.
17. Front tire and wheel assemblies.
18. Left front inner splash shield.
19. Both front Anti-lock Brake System, Wheel Speed Sensor (ABS WSS) harness connectors and unroute left side harness.
20. Flywheel housing cover bolts.
21. Vehicle speed sensor at the transaxle.
22. Left and right ball joint nuts and separate.
23. Left stabilizer link pin.
24. Left side U-bolt from the stabilizer bar.
25. Left suspension support attaching bolts.
26. Drive axles from transaxle.
27. Front lower transaxle mount.
28. Attach the transaxle case to the jack.
29. Transaxle to engine mounting bolts.
30. Transaxle by sliding it away from the engine and carefully lowering the jack.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Transaxle.
2. Transaxle to engine mounting bolts. Tighten bolts to 75 Nm (55 lbs. ft.).

Front Transaxle Mount To Transaxle:






3. Front transaxle mount. Tighten retaining bolts.
4. Flywheel housing cover bolts. Tighten flywheel housing cover bolts to 10 Nm (89 lbs. in.).
5. Drive axles to the transaxle.
6. Left suspension support and attaching bolts.
7. Left U-bolt to the stabilizer bar.
8. Left and right ball joint nuts.
9. Left side stabilizer link nuts.
10. Route left side ABS WSS wiring harness and connect both front WSS harnesses to the sensor.
11. Inner splash shield.
12. Tire and wheel assembly.
13. Vehicle speed sensor at transaxle.
14. Lower the vehicle.
15. Ground cables at the transaxle mounting studs.
16. Transaxle vent tube to transaxle.
17. Backup light switch connector.
18. Upper transaxle to engine bolts. Tighten bolts to 75 Nm (55 lbs. ft.).
19. Clutch master cylinder to clutch actuator cylinder.

Rear Transaxle Mount To Transaxle:






20. Rear transaxle mount. Tighten mount bolts.
21. Wire harness at the mount bracket.
22. Remove J 28467-A engine support fixture.
23. Shift cables clamp and nut. Tighten clamp nut to 10 Nm (89 lbs. in.).
24. Air cleaner and duct assembly to the throttle body.
25. Clutch pushrod to clutch pedal.
26. Left sound insulator.
27. Negative battery cable.
28. Fill transaxle with Synchromesh Transaxle Fluid GM P/N 12345349 or equivalent.
