Important Preliminary Precautions
CAUTION: Be careful when you handle a Sensing & Diagnostic Module (SDM). Do not strike or jolt the SDM. Before applying power to the SDM: remove any dirt, grease, etc. from the mounting surface.
^ Position the SDM horizontally on the mounting surface.
^ Point the arrow on the SDM toward the front of the vehicle.
^ Tighten all of the SDM fastener. and SDM bracket fasteners to the specified torque value.
Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause air bag deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.
CAUTION: When the vehicle interior has been exposed to extensive water intrusion, such as water leaks, window left open, driving through high water, and so forth, the Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) may need to be replaced. With the Ignition OFF, inspect the area under the passenger's seat and the area around the SDM, including the carpet. If any significant soaking or evidence of significant soaking is detected, the water must be removed, water damage repaired, and the SDM and the SDM harness connector MUST be replaced. Before attempting these repairs, the SIR system must be disabled.
Refer to Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming for instructions on how to disable the SIR system. Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming
Failure to disable the SIR system may result in air bag deployment, personal injury, or otherwise unneeded SIR system repairs.
