Technician Safety Information

SIR WARNING
This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System (Air Bag.) The SIR system should be disarmed before performing service on or near SIR system components or wiring, to avoid accidental deployment of the airbag. Failure to follow the CAUTIONS could result in air bag deployment, personal injury, or otherwise unneeded SIR system repairs.

ASBESTOS HAZARD
When servicing brake parts, do not create dust by grinding or sanding brake linings, or by cleaning brake parts with a dry brush or with compressed air. Many brake parts contain asbestos fibers which can become airborne if dust is created during servicing. Breathing dust containing asbestos fibers may cause serious bodily harm. A water dampened cloth or water based solution should be used to remove any dust on brake parts. Equipment is commercially available to perform this washing function. These wet methods will prevent asbestos fibers from becoming airborne.

AIR IN SYSTEM
If any brake component is repaired or replaced such that air is allowed to enter the brake system, the entire bleeding procedure MUST be followed. Unapproved or partial bleed procedures can allow air to remain in the brake system. This could result in reduced braking performance and possible personal injury.

BRAKE FLUID
^ Brake fluid is poisonous and an irritant to eyes and skin. In case of contact, take the following actions:
- In case of eye contact - rinse thoroughly with water.
- In case of skin contact - wash with soap and water.
- In case of accidental injestion - consult physician or poison control center immediately.
^ Avoid spilling brake fluid on any of the vehicle's painted surfaces, wiring cables or electrical connectors. Brake fluid will damage paint and electrical connections. If any fluid is spilled on the vehicle, flush the area with water to lessen damage.
^ Use only SUPREME 11 or equivalent DOT 3 brake fluid from a clean, sealed container. Do not use fluid from an open container that may be contaminated with water. Improper or contaminated fluid could result in damage to components, or loss of braking, with possible personal injury.

FIRE HAZARD
Overfilling the reservoir must be avoided due to the potential for overflow onto the nearby catalytic converters in the exhaust system. Brake fluid is flammable, and contact with hot exhaust components could result in a fire and possible personal injury.

CAUTION: Certain components in the Antilock Brake System are not intended to be serviced individually. Attempting to remove or disconnect certain system components may result in personal injury and/or improper system operation.

To help avoid personal injury due to poor braking, DO NOT tap into the vehicle's brake hydraulic system to operate a trailer brake system.

CAUTION: ^ Replace all components included in repair kits used to service this caliper.
^ Lubricate rubber parts with clean brake fluid to ease assembly.
^ Do not use lubricated compressed air on brake parts as damage to rubber components may result.
^ If any hydraulic component is removed or disconnected, it may be necessary to bleed all or part of the brake system.
^ Replace brake pads in axle sets only.
^ The torque specifications are for dry, unlubricated fasteners.
^ Perform service operations on a clean bench, free from all mineral oil materials.
