Component Tests and General Diagnostics
STEERING COLUMN LOCK SYSTEM
WILL NOT UNLOCK
Inspect the following:
- Damaged housing assembly.
- Damaged shaft assembly.
- Damaged shear bolts.
- Damaged lock cylinder assembly.
- Damaged ignition switch assembly.
- Improper shift control cable adjustment.
- Damaged electric Park Lock Solenoid.
WILL NOT LOCK
Inspect the following:
- Damaged housing assembly.
- Damaged shaft assembly.
- Damaged lock cylinder assembly.
- Damaged ignition switch assembly.
- Damaged shear bolts.
- Improper shift control cable adjustment.
- Damaged electric Park Lock Solenoid.
HIGH LOCK EFFORT IN LOCK CYLINDER BETWEEN "OFF" AND "LOCK-OFF"
Inspect the following:
- Damaged housing assembly.
- Damaged shaft assembly.
- Damaged lock cylinder assembly.
- Damaged ignition switch assembly.
- Damaged electric Park Lock Solenoid.
- Improper shift control cable adjustment.
WILL STICK IN "START"
Inspect the following:
- Damaged ignition switch assembly.
- Damaged lock cylinder assembly.
- Binding between lock cylinder bezel and housing.
- Damaged housing assembly.
KEY CANNOT BE REMOVED IN "OFF-LOCK"
Inspect the following:
- Damaged ignition switch assembly.
- Bent or twisted ignition key.
- Damaged lock cylinder assembly.
- Improper park lock cable adjustment.
- Improper shift control cable adjustment.
- Damaged electric Park Lock Solenoid.
STEERING VIBRATES (SHUTTERS) DURING LOW SPEED OR STATIC STEERING
Inspect the following:
- Air in system.
- Loose power steering belt.
