Transaxle Assembly Removal and Replacement

^ Tool Required:
- J 28467-360 Engine Support Fixture
- Or Equivalent


REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Negative battery cable.
2. Install J 28467-360 and raise engine enough to take pressure off of the transaxle mounts.
3. Air cleaner and duct assembly from throttle body.
4. Wire harness at the mount bracket.
5. Upper transaxle mount to transaxle bolts.
6. Clutch master cylinder from clutch actuator cylinder.
7. Ground cables at transaxle mounting studs.
8. Backup light switch connector.
9. Transaxle vent tube.
10. Rear transaxle to engine bolts.
11. Lower engine with the engine support fixture at least 30 revolutions to ease removal and installation of transaxle.
12. Raise the vehicle and support.
13. Drain the transaxle.
14. Front tire and wheel assemblies.
15. Left front inner splash shield.
16. Both front ABS WSS harness connectors and unroute left side harness.





17. Flywheel housing cover bolts.
18. Vehicle speed sensor at the transaxle.
19. Left and right ball joint nuts and separate.
20. Stabilizer link pins.
21. Power steering lines.
22. Steering gear to column coupler.
23. Suspension support attaching bolts.
24. Drive axles from transaxle.
25. Front lower transaxle mount.
26. Attach the transaxle case to the jack.





27. Transaxle to engine mounting bolts.
28. Transaxle by sliding it away from the engine and carefully lowering the jack.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Transaxle.
2. Transaxle to engine mounting bolts.

Tighten
^ Bolts to 90 Nm (66 ft. lbs.).

3. Front transaxle mount.

Tighten





^ Retaining bolts.

4. Flywheel housing cover bolts.

Tighten
^ Flywheel housing cover bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).

5. Drive axles to the transaxle.
6. Suspension support and attaching bolts.
7. Steering gear to column coupler.
8. Power steering lines.
9. Left and right ball joint nuts.
10. Stabilizer link nuts.
11. Route left side ABS WSS wiring harness and connect both front WSS harnesses to the sensor.
12. Inner splash shield.
13. Tire and wheel assemblies.
14. Vehicle speed sensor at transaxle.
15. Lower the vehicle.
16. Ground cables at the transaxle mounting studs.
17. Transaxle vent tube to transaxle.
18. Backup light switch connector.
19. Upper transaxle to engine bolts.

Tighten
^ Bolts to 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.).

20. Clutch master cylinder to clutch actuator cylinder.
21. Rear transaxle mount.

Tighten





^ Mount bolts.

22. Wire harness at the mount bracket.
23. Remove J 28467-360 engine support fixture.
24. Shift cables clamp and nut.

Tighten
^ Clamp nut to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).

25. Air cleaner and duct assembly to the throttle body.
26. Negative battery cable.
27. Fill Transaxle with Synchromesh Transaxle Fluid GM P/N 12345349 or equivalent.
