Synchronizers

The synchronizer hubs and sliding sleeves are a selected assembly and should be kept together as originally assembled.

Clean synchronizer components with clean solvent and air dry. Inspect the components for the following:
^ Teeth for Wear, scuffs, nicks, burrs or breaks.
^ . Keys and springs for wear, cracks or distortion, replace if these conditions are present.
^ If scuffed, nicked or burred conditions cannot be corrected with a soft stone or crocus cloth, replace the component.

^ Measure the clearance between blocker ring and inserts. Replace components if not within the following specifications:
- 1st/2nd gear 3.9 mm (0.154 in.) or less
- 3rd/4th and 5th gear 3.7 mm (0.146 in.) or less

^ Measure the clearance between blocker ring and gear. Replace components if less than 0.8 mm (0.031 in.).

^ Measure the clearance between blocker rings and synchronizing cones for 1st and 2nd gears by positioning 1st gear then 1st/2nd synchronizer assembly then 2nd gear as shown. Replace the 1st/2nd gear synchronizer components if the measurement exceeds 0.8 mm (0.031 in.).
^ When reassembling synchronizer assemblies, each insert spring should support all three keys and each opening portion of the insert spring should face the opposite direction from the other.
