Power Locks: Description and Operation

When a Door Lock Switch is activated in the Power Door Lock system, all doors will lock or unlock in unison. Each lock can be operated manually. The locks are operated by reversible motors. The Door Lock Switches operate the motors by applying a voltage to one of the terminals and ground to the other terminal.

Battery voltage is applied to both Door Lock Switches at terminal "C", (terminal "F" for Chevrolet). When the LH Door Lock Switch is moved to "LOCK," battery voltage is applied to both Door Lock Motors from CKT 295. Both Motors are grounded through CKT 294, the contacts of the LH Door Lock Switch, the 194 CKT, the contacts of the RH Door Lock Switch and CKT 250 to ground G302.

When the LH Door Lock Switch is moved to "UNLOCK," battery voltage is applied to all Door Lock Motors in the opposite direction from CKT 294. Both Motors are grounded through CKT 295, the contacts of the LH Door Lock Switch, the 195 CKT, the contacts of the RH Door Lock Switch and CKT 250 to ground G302.

When the RH Door Lock Switch is moved to "LOCK," battery voltage is applied from CKT 195, the contacts of the LH Door Lock Switch and CKT 295 to both Door Lock Motors. when the RH Door Lock Switch is moved to "UNLOCK," battery voltage is applied from CKT 194, the contacts of the LH Door Lock Switch and CKT 294 to all Door Lock Motors in the opposite direction. During RH Door Lock Switch operation, the Door Lock Motors are grounded similarly to the way they are grounded during LH Door Lock Switch operation.
