Convertible Top: Description and Operation

With the Ignition Switch in the "RUN" position, voltage is applied to the Folding Top Switch through the Power Accessory Fuse. Moving the Folding Top Switch to the "UP" or "DOWN" position energizes the Folding Top Relay to supply both power and ground to the motors. Voltage to operate the motors comes from the Power Window Circuit Breaker, via the Folding Top Relay.

A left and right motor is used to open and close the Folding Top. These motors are electrically "ganged" together which opens and closes the top. Based on the position of the Folding Top Switch, the Folding Top Relay supplies power and ground to either side of the motors, depending on the desired travel direction of the Folding Top.

A Bypass Switch is used in the circuit to provide a means to manually operate the Folding Top in the event of a malfunction. By opening the Bypass Switch, the motors are no longer "ganged" together, allowing for easier operation of the Folding Top manually.
