Front Cover and Oil Seal Installation

^ Tool Required - J 35468 Seal Centering Tool, or equivalent.

CAUTION: The correct tool must be used in order to align the engine front cover. This will ensure that the engine front cover seal will be centered around the crankshaft. The seal must be centered around the crankshaft in order to prevent damage during hub installation.





1. Install the crankshaft front oil seal.
a. Lubricate the seal lips with the engine oil.
b. Use the seal centering tool in order to install the seal to the cover.
2. For information about RTV sealer.
3. Apply a 10 mm (3/8 inches) wide, by 5 mm (3/16 inches) thick, bead of RTV to the oil pan. Apply the RTV where the oil pan and the engine front cover meet.
4. Apply a 6 mm (1/4 inches) wide, by 3 mm (1/8 inches) thick, bead of RTV to the engine front cover. Apply the RTV where the engine front cover and the engine block meet.





5. Install the engine front cover to the engine block. The seal centering tool should still be in place.
6. Install the engine front cover bolts. Tighten the engine front cover bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
7. Remove the seal centering tool from the engine front cover.
