Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI)

The Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) is a Park Lock system that prevents the vehicle's transaxle from being shifted out of Park (P) unless the brake pedal is FULLY depressed. When the brake pedal is depressed, the BTSI electromagnet releases the lock pawl, enabling the shift lever to move and the shift cable to operate.

When service is required, the BTSI system can be overridden by turning the ignition lock to "off". This removes battery voltage from the electromagnet and leaves it de-energized.
