INSTALL OR CONNECT

NOTICE: Always use the correct fastener in the proper location. When you replace a fastener, use ONLY the exact part number for that application. The manufacturer will call out those fasteners that require thread lockers or thread sealant. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, do not use supplemental coatings (paints, greases, or other corrosion inhibitors) on threaded fasteners or fastener joint interfaces. Generally, such coatings adversely affect the fastener torque and the joint clamping force, and may damage the fastener. When you install fasteners, use the correct tightening sequence and specifications. Following these instructions can help you avoid damage to parks and systems. Failure to do may result in component damage or malfunction of steering column.

1. Lock bolt assembly (21) to bearing & housing assembly (11).
2. Lock bolt support bracket (22).
3. Two tapping screws (23).
^ Seat upper tapping screw (23) first and lower screw (23) second.
^ Tighten two screws (23) to 5.2 Nm (46 lb in).
4. Shaft lock (6).
^ Align inner block tooth of lock plate to block tooth of race & upper shaft assembly (26).
^ Lubricate with grease, synthetic (service kit).
5. New shaft lock retaining ring (5) using J 23653-SIR to push down shaft lock (6).
^ Ring (5) must be firmly seated in groove on shaft.
6. Center race & upper shaft assembly (26) and SIR coil assembly (3).
A. Wheels straight ahead.
^ Block tooth and centering mark on race & upper shaft assembly (26) at 12 o'clock position.
