The 3T40 transmission consists primarily of the following components:
- A four-element hydraulic torque converter
- A compound planetary gear set
- A dual sprocket and drive link assembly
- Three multiple disc clutches
- One roller clutch
- An intermediate band assembly
- A valve body assembly
- A vane type oil pump
