The scan tool can be used to monitor the communications between controllers to diagnose problems in the vehicle. This is called the SDL (Serial Data Link) MONITOR on the scan tool. Refer to Table #2 for listing of normal communications between the Instrument Cluster and various control modules. Please note that this table includes all options and some may not be active on all cars. The term ABS refers to the Anti-lock Brake System which is controlled by the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM). The term SIR refers to Supplemental Inflatable Restraint which is controlled by the SDM. This table is broken into display pairs as the scan tool lists two function descriptions per screen.
