Refrigerant Pressure Sensor / Switch: Service and Repair

A/C Refrigerant Pressure Sensor Replacement

The A/C system has a pressure sensor mounted on the compressor/condenser hose assembly near the condenser connection. The sensor performs the following functions through an input to the PCM:
^ Low pressure cutout
^ High pressure cutout

The system does not use compressor mounted switches. The sensor is mounted on a service fitting. You may replace the sensor without discharging the A/C system.

Removal Procedure

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Disconnect the electrical connection at the sensor.

IMPORTANT: The sensor is mounted on a service fitting. Do not discharge the system.

3. Remove the pressure sensor. Discard the O-ring seal.

Installation Procedure
1. Lubricate the new O-ring seal in clean 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.
2. Install the new O-ring seal.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Install the pressure sensor (9).

Tighten
Tighten the sensor to 5 N.m (44 lb in).

4. Connect the electrical connection at the sensor.
5. Connect the negative battery cable.

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 16 N.m (12 lb ft).
