Frame Replacement
Removal Procedure
Tools Required
* J 28467-B Universal Engine Support Fixture
* J 28467-94B Engine Support Adapters
* J 42451-1 Engine Support Adapter
* J 42478 Engine Support Fixture Adapters
1. Install the J 28467-B in order to support the engine.
1. Remove the left and right inboard strut fasteners.
2. Install the J 28467-94B (3) adapters in place of inboard strut fasteners.
3. Install the J 42478 (4) on top of the J 28467-94B (3) adapters.
4. Remove the left and right outboard strut fasteners.
5. Install the adapters in place of the outboard strut fasteners.
6. Install the J 28467-B (1).
7. Remove the generator pencil brace nut.
8. Install the J 42451-1 (5) with the generator pencil brace fastener.
9. Install the hook assemblies from the J 28467-B to the J 42451-1 on the right side of the engine and to the factory installed engine lift bracket on the left side of the engine.
2. Ensure the engine support fixture is stable on the strut towers.
3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting ().
4. Remove the fasteners retaining the rack and pinion at the left side of the vehicle.
5. Remove the front tires and wheels.
6. Remove the engine splash shield.
7. Separate the ball joints from the steering knuckle. Refer to Lower Control Arm Ball Joint Replacement () in Front Suspension.
8. Remove the front air deflector.
9. Remove the brackets retaining the power steering lines (1,2) at the engine frame.
10. Remove the brackets retaining the transmissions cooler lines to the engine frame.
11. Remove the fastener retaining the rack and pinion at the right side of the vehicle.
12. Remove the fastener retaining the front engine mount to the engine frame.
13. Remove the fasteners retaining the right transaxle mount to the engine frame.
14. Support the engine frame with suitable jack stands.
15. Remove the engine frame insulator fasteners (3) retaining the engine frame (2) to the vehicle.
16. Lower the engine frame (2) from the vehicle.
17. Separate the engine frame insulators from the engine frame:
1. Remove the bolts (2) from the engine frame (1).
2. Remove the lower insulator retainer (3) from the lower insulator (4).
3. Remove the lower insulator (4) from the engine frame (1).
4. Remove the retainer (7) and the upper spacer (6) from the upper insulator (5).
5. Remove the upper insulator (5) from the engine frame (1).
Installation Procedure
1. Assemble the engine frame insulators to the engine frame:
1. Install the upper insulator (5) from the engine frame (1).
2. Install the retainer (7) and the upper spacer (6) from the upper insulator (5).
3. Install the lower insulator (4) from the engine frame (1).
4. Install the lower insulator retainer (3) from the lower insulator (4).
5. Install the fasteners (2) from the engine frame (1).
2. Using dowel pins in the alignment holes (1), align the engine frame (2) with the vehicle.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
3. Install the engine frame insulator fasteners (3) to retain the engine frame (2) to the vehicle.
Tighten the fasteners to 191 N.m (141 lb ft).
4. Remove the jack stands supporting the engine frame.
5. Install the nuts to retain the rear transmission mount to the bracket.
6. Install the fastener in order to retain the front engine mount to the engine frame.
7. Install the fasteners in order to retain the rack and pinion to the engine frame.
8. Install the brackets in order to retain the transmission cooler lines to the engine frame.
9. Install the brackets in order to retain the power steering lines (1,2) at the engine frame.
10. Install the front air deflector.
11. Install the ball joints to the steering knuckle.
12. Install the engine splash shield.
13. Install the front tires and wheels.
14. Remove the J 28467-B supporting the engine.
15. Lower the vehicle.
16. Test drive the vehicle in order to ensure there are no performance issues.
