System Operation

BACKUP LAMPS
When the ignition switch is in the ON position and the gear selector lever is in the REVERSE position the backup lamps light.

COURTESY LAMPS
The courtesy lamps, including the reading lamps, may be manually turned on or off by placing the interior lamp switch in the ON or AUTO position. When the interior lamp switch is in the AUTO position, the ambient light sensor indicates night time conditions and a front door is opened the foot well courtesy lamps, all door courtesy lamps and the overhead console courtesy lamps turn on. When the interior lamp switch is in the AUTO position, the ambient light sensor indicates low light conditions and a rear door is opened then all of the courtesy lamps turn on. After all of the doors are closed the courtesy lamps of the last door closed will remain on for approximately 25 seconds. The courtesy lamps will deactivate immediately if the ignition switch is turned to RUN or an all door lock command is received with all doors closed.

When the interior lamp switch is in the AUTO position, the ambient light sensor indicates night time conditions and the keyless entry transmitter is used to unlock the vehicle, all courtesy lamps turn on for approximately 40 seconds. The courtesy lamps will deactivate immediately if the ignition switch is turned to the ON position or an all door lock command is received with all doors closed. After deployment of the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR), all courtesy lamps will light after an approximately 15 second delay period. After SIR deployment the courtesy lamps will only be deactivated when the ignition switch is removed from the ON position.

DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS
The daytime running lamps (DRL) illuminate the high beam headlamps at a reduced intensity. The DRL will operate when the ignition switch is in the ON position and the gear selector lever is out of the PARK position. Any function that turns on the headlamps will override and disable the DRL system.

FLASH-TO-PASS
When the headlamp switch is pulled slightly toward the driver the high beam headlamps will light for as long as the switch is held. This will occur in any headlamp state (off, DRL, low beams). If the low beams are on the high beam headlamps will light in addition to the low beams.

FRONT FOG LAMPS
The front fog lamp switch is a momentary switch. Pressing this switch will change the front fog lamps from off to on or on to off. The state of the front fog lamps will remain the same until the front fog lamp switch is pressed even between ignition cycles. The front fog lamps are operational when the ignition switch is in the ON position and the front fog lamp state is on. The front fog lamps will not be on any time the high beam headlamps are on. When the front fog lamps are on the park lamps will also be activated.

HAZARD LAMPS
When the hazard switch is pressed all of the turn lamps and hazard flasher lamps will flash. Both turn indicators will flash on the IPC.

HEADLAMPS
The headlamps may be turned on 3 different ways. The headlamps will turn on when the headlamp switch is placed in the ON position. If the headlamp switch is left in the ON position the headlamps will be deactivated after 10 minutes following a ignition switch transition to the OFF position because of the battery rundown protection. If the headlamp switch is turned on with the ignition switch in the OFF position, there is not a time out and the headlamps will remain on until the headlamp switch is turned off or the battery runs down. With the twilight sentinel in the ON position the headlamps will automatically turn on during night time conditions when the ignition switch is in the ON or START position. With the twilight sentinel in an ON position, the headlamps will automatically turn on after 6 seconds when the windshield wipers are turned on and the ignition switch is in the ON position. The headlamps will remain on when the ignition switch is turned to the ACCY position.

When the low beam headlamps are on, the high beam headlamps may be turned on in addition to the low beams by pulling the headlamp switch towards the driver. Push the lever forward for high beam and rearward for low beam.

IGNITION KEY CYLINDER LAMP
When the courtesy lamps are on, the ignition key cylinder lamp (Halo) is also on.

INTERIOR LAMPS DIMMING
When the ignition switch is in the ON position, the vacuum fluorescent (VF) displays turn on at maximum brightness. When the park lamps are on and the ambient light sensor indicates night time conditions, all incandescent switch backlighting turns on at the dimming level indicated by the interior lamp switch and all VF displays dim to match the dimming level indicated by the interior lamp switch. When the interior lamp switch is moved from MIN to MAX all the VF displays and incandescent switch backlighting dimming level goes from minimum intensity to maximum brightness in response to the interior lamp switch.

IP COMPARTMENT LAMP
When the IP compartment is opened, IP compartment lamp lights.

PARK LAMPS
The park lamps will turn on when the headlamp switch is placed in the PARK or ON position. If the headlamp switch is left in the PARK or ON position the park lamps will be deactivated after 10 minutes following a ignition switch transition to the OFF position because of the battery rundown protection. When the twilight sentinel in the ON position the park lamps will automatically turn on along with the headlamps during night time conditions when the ignition switch is in the ON position. When the twilight sentinel in the ON position the park lamps will automatically turn on along with the headlamps when the windshield wipers are turned on and the ignition switch is in the ON or ACCY position. The park lamps will also turn on if the front fog lamps are activated.

READING LAMPS
Each reading lamp may be manually turned on and off using the respective switch.

REAR COMPARTMENT LAMP
When the rear compartment lid is opened the rear compartment lamp lights.

STOPLAMPS
When the brake pedal is pressed all the stoplamps and the center high mounted stop lamps (CHMSL) light.

TURN LAMPS
The turn lamps are activated with the ignition switch in the ON position. When the turn signal switch is placed in a position in order to indicate a left turn or a right turn the respective turn lamps will flash. The respective turn indicator will flash on the instrument panel cluster (IPC).

TWILIGHT SENTINEL
The twilight sentinel is a convenience system that controls the operation of the exterior lamps in response to the level of ambient light. The twilight sentinel turns on and off the headlamps depending on whether night time or daytime conditions are sensed. The twilight sentinel will also keep the exterior lamps on for a pre-selected period of time after the ignition is turned to the OFF position with night time conditions sensed. The exterior lamps will be turned off automatically after the delay period elapses. The delay period ranges from approximately a few seconds to 3 minutes in 10 second increments.

VANITY LAMPS
When the vanity mirror cover on the sunshade is opened the vanity lamp lights. The vanity lamp may be dimmed through the sliding switch next to the mirror.
