Subject:
Insufficient Operating Range of Garage Door Opener - HomeLink(R) Transmitter (Install Range Enhancement Kit)
Models:
2000 Buick LeSabre
2000 Pontiac Bonneville with RPO UG1
Built prior to December, 1999
Condition
Some customers may comment that the garage door opener, located in the headliner overhead console, does not provide sufficient operating range.
Cause
This condition may be due to the signal from the HomeLink(R) Transmitter (located in the headliner overhead console) to the garage door opener unit located in the structure, not being sufficient enough.
Correction
Install a range enhancement kit on the inside surface of the headliner overhead console. The range enhancement kit contains a 33 cm (13 in) long metal adhesive tape and installation instructions.
Important:
Be careful when installing the metal adhesive tape in order to keep from cutting or tearing the tape.
Refer to the Interior Trim sub-section of Body & Accessories in the Service Manual for the overhead console removal and installation procedures.
Removal of the courtesy/reading lamp module (3 fasteners) from the overhead console may be necessary to ensure the metal adhesive tape is properly installed.
Parts Information
The Range Enhancement Kit is currently available from Johnson Controls, Inc. at no cost.
