Coolant Temperature Sensor/Switch (For Computer): Service and Repair
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
IMPORTANT: Care must be taken when handling the Engine Coolant Temperature sensor. Damage to the engine coolant temperature sensor will affect proper operation of the fuel injection system.
1. Drain the radiator coolant. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System (3.8L) in Cooling System.
2. Disconnect the ECT sensor electrical connector.
3. Using a 19 mm deep well socket, remove the sensor.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Coat engine coolant temperature sensor threads with sealer P/N 1052080 or equivalent.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
2. Hand start the ECT sensor into the engine.
Tighten
Tighten the ECT sensor to 12.5 N.m (9.2 lb ft).
3. Connect the ECT sensor electrical connector.
4. Refill radiator with coolant. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System (3.8L) in Cooling System.
5. Start the engine and inspect for a coolant leak.
