Steering Wheel

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to SIR Handling Caution in Service Precautions.

- Tools Required
- J1859-A Steering Wheel Puller
- J38720 Steering Wheel Puller Bolts

1. Remove the nut (3).
2. Disconnect the horn ground lead (5).

Notice: When removing the steering wheel, use only the specified steering wheel puller. Under no conditions should the end of the steering column shaft be hammered on, as hammering could loosen the plastic injections which maintain steering column rigidity.

Notice: When attaching J1859-A and J38720 to the steering wheel, use care to prevent threading J39720 (bolts) all the way through the steering wheel hub into the SIR coil and damaging the SIR coil.

3. Use a J1859-A and a J38720 in order to remove the steering wheel (2).
4. Remove the steering wheel horn switch. Refer to Horn Switch Replacement-On Vehicle (Chevrolet) or Horn Switch Replacement-On Vehicle (Pontiac).

3. Install the steering wheel (2).
4. Connect the horn ground lead (5).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

5. Install the nut (3).
- Tighten the nut to 43 Nm (32 ft. lbs.)
