Fuel Delivery and Air Induction: Service and Repair

IMPORTANT: Clean the fuel tank if a fuel system problem is caused by contaminated fuel or by foreign material in the fuel system. Replace a rusted fuel tank or a tank that is still contaminated after cleaning.

1. Remove the fuel tank from the vehicle.
2. Remove the clamp and the fuel filler hose from the fuel tank.
3. Remove the clamp and the fuel breather hose from the fuel tank.
4. Remove the fuel sender assembly from the fuel tank.
5. Remove the fuel tank pressure sensor from the fuel tank.
6. Remove the fill-limiter vent valve from the fuel tank.

IMPORTANT: The fuel and water mixture is a hazardous material. Dispose of the mixture in accordance with the applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations.

7. Drain the fuel tank.
8. Remove all of the water from the fuel tank.
9. Blow out the fuel pipes, the lines, and the fittings with clean compressed air.
10. Install the fill limiter vent valve to the fuel tank.
11. Install the fuel tank pressure sensor to the fuel tank.
12. Install the fuel sender assembly to the fuel tank.
13. Install the clamp and the fuel filler hose to the fuel tank.
14. Install the clamp and the fuel breather hose to the fuel tank.
15. Install the fuel tank to the vehicle.
16. Refill the fuel tank.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

17. Connect the negative battery cable.

Tighten
Tighten the negative battery cable retainer to 5.5 N.m (49 lb in).

18. Inspect for fuel leaks, and repair any leaks as necessary.
