Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

IMPORTANT: After deployment of the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR), inspect the coil assembly wire for heat damage. If the coil assembly is damaged, replace the coil.

CAUTION: Refer to SIR Handling Caution in Service Precautions.

1. Disable the SIR. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Place the front wheels in a straight-ahead position.
4. Remove the right side trim cover from the steering wheel.
5. Remove the 2 horn wire connectors from the steering wheel.
6. Remove the 2 screws from the steering wheel.

CAUTION: Refer to Inflator Module Handling And Storage Caution in Service Precautions.

7. Remove the inflator module (1) from the steering wheel.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the inflator module to the steering wheel.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the 2 screws in order to secure the inflator module to the steering wheel.

Tighten
Tighten the inflator module-to-steering wheel screws to 23 N.m (17 lb ft).

3. Install the 2 horn connectors (2) and the right trim cover (1) to the steering wheel.
4. Connect the negative battery cable.
5. Enable the SIR. Refer to Enabling the SIR System.
